What once started as a small little festival of the band Peter Pan Speedrock has grown into probably the largest indoor festival in heavy music in the Netherlands. The gathering of misfits has become more and more an international event, every year more Belgians, Germans and British people are visiting this beautiful festival.

Sadly enough I had to miss out on the first act Black Bone but if I should believe the people who did see them they did quite a descent job. My first band of the day was the German equivalent of Peter Pan Speedrock called Nitrovolt. An easy way to score amongst the Peter Pan Speedrock fans and that's exactly what they did. A nice way to start the day with a beer in your hand. (Niamen)

The Black Spiders are on tour with Monster Magnet which gave them the opportunity of playing at Speedfest. Their rock 'n roll is probably best at its place when your cruising in your convertible on a sunny afternoon. So maybe a little misplaced but still they gave everybody a great rock show where they shown to be a solid rock band. Going to check out more of this band. (Niamen)

The Dutch (classic) hard rock trio Vanderbuyst are rapidly gaining ground, so it is no wonder they made an appearance at Speedfest as well. Even though the crowd didn’t consume that much beer yet, the songs were received with enthusiasm. I’ve seen them perform a number of times already, but this was the first time I saw them play my favourite song of their debut album; ‘Traci Lords’. A song about underage porn actress, always good. Was nice to see that next to the regular classics like ‘Tiger’, ‘Stealing Your Thunder’ and ‘From Pillar To Post’ they also covered Thin Lizzy’s ‘Don’t Believe A Word’. The tight rhythm section combined with the epic solos of Willem Verbuyst made for a very good show, and I’m starting to get more into the vocals I have to admit. We’ll hear plenty more from these dudes I’m sure! (DemonDust)

In Holland we don't have many old school punk bands. Luckily we do have Gewapend Beton. These youngster, compared to the other bands on the bill today, are up for one hell of a show. The simple 3-chord punk hits the public in the face with a sledgehammer resulting in a instant party in front of the stage. Only minor setbacks of the show are the unnecessary guitar solos that are quite misplaced in their punksound. (Niamen)

The Australian pyschobilly act The Fireballs was definitely a must see for me. After the first song it's pretty obvious that these guys know how to create a great pyschobilly party. With the vocalist standing behind the drumkit an constantly fireing up the audience this show was one of the highlights of this years Speedfest. They promised to show a gave an awesome show for their first time in Holland and that's exactly what they did. (Niamen)

The Dutch rockers of Orange Sunshine were pretty stoked about this set and that was exactly what they showed on stage. Although they are working their asses of onstage I have the feeling that the sound never reached the audience. The fact that the sound was rather blurry is probably an explanation for this. Too bad. (Niamen)

Now here’s a punk band that likes some controversy indeed I mean the Dwarves. Just do a little background info check on them and you know they have a proper sense of humour next to the skills to play some cool punk rock. Singer
Blag Dahlia has a high entertaining value with his in-between-song comments and overall stage presence, something the crowd definitely seemed to appreciate. The foursome performed a very nice and tight set of a variety of their songs, well done by these oldies. Having a naked guy on stage after their show made sure people will remember this for some time to come. (DemonDust)

The famous Dutch punkers of The Heideroosjes are doing their farewell tour and it's pretty cool that they are booked on Speedfest giving a lot of people the opportunity to check them out for one last time. This resulted of course in a huge crowd in front of the stage. Knowing Speedfest and it's visitors they promised to play some old shit and that is exactly what they did. Next to their wellknown songs they also played several old songs that put a huge smile on my face. Sadly enough one hour is way too short for all the great songs they have. Certainly when they even play some material from their latest released album called Cease Fire. A great show and a personal highlight for Speedfest. (Niamen)

Well, I never actually heard of The Hookers before, but when I was taking a shit at the festival I read something about them in an interview in the Speedfest newspaper. So I decided to walk in real quick. I got treated to the best band I saw this fest! Dirty sleazy speedrock ‘n’ roll punk metal performed by four long-haired, bearded, rugged and most likely smelly sweaty men, I felt at home! Their songs possess an awesome groove and wicked guitar solos, all with a feel of sincerity and big, big balls. Quite soon I found myself right in front of the stage enjoying the testosterone rock riffs, something more members of the audience were doing. Their set was received with loud applause, which was only just. Like to see these guys more often for sure! Ballsy, hairy ballsy! (DemonDust)

Last time I saw Pentagram in 013 with Trouble, I got so wasted I barely remembered anything. Time for a second chance, in a similar state of mind.
Bobby Liebling and co. were going at it as if it was still 1970, the sound was awesome, everything was crystal clear. Bobby moved a bit less than I remembered (but that could be me), but was still doing his best to look like a drug-infested rock n roll god. Their fuzzy classic (stoner)rock was a real nice treat to the ears, one epic solo after another passed by while the foursome grooved through their set. Even though we were at Speedfest, the cocaine paste was dripping from the speakers. Definitely one of the highlights of the fest for me. (DemonDust)

The brutal hardcore from the Belgian Rise And Fall is maybe a bit out of place but nonetheless they impress me. Their hardcore that is filled with elements of Neurosis and Celtic Frost is not easily digested which is probably one of the reasons that it's not really crowded in front of the stage. Still the people that are present are given a great show that impress. Good band that could grow into something great if they manage to hold this level of quality. (Niamen)

Ever since the start of the festival the guys from Peter Pan Speedrock are anxious on booking Discharge. Finally this year they managed to pull it off. The only question I have is simple. Why do they play at the smallest podium in the venue? An utter disgrace if you'd ask me. Still for Discharge it doesn't matter since the gave two hundred percent and convinced everybody present that punks not dead. Great show! (Niamen)

Peter Pan Speedrock on their own festival is like giving away free beer, everybody likes it. They did the thing that they do best. Rock like hell. Ofcourse Dikke Dennis came along for 'Schoppenaas' and Marco Roelofs from the Heideroosjes performed his I'm Not Deaf I'm Just Ignoring You with the band. Good as always. (Niamen)

The almighty Monster Magnet promised to play their magnum opus Dopes To Infinity entirely. I don't know if that was a great idea. During their set the crowd participation was nearly diminished to zero. My guess is that it would be better for them just to play their hits and save this type of deals for a club tour. Certainly not the show I had hoped for. (Niamen)

The little metal midget called Danko Jones had the honor of closing down this years great edition of Speedfest. It's probably a love 'em or hate 'em kind of artist. I still think he's funny as hell. Ofcourse he's playing a character and takes himself way to seriously but that's probably also the funniest thing about him. This show was no difference and since an entire day of drinking had taken it's toll I decided to head home and called it a day. I'm very curious if they can top this years edition next year. (Niamen)
