A Pale Horse Named Death is the brainchild of Sal Abruscato which released their debut album And Hell Will Follow Me last year. A very entertaining disc, which makes this reviewer quite curious to the follow-up.A Pale Horse Named Death can be witnessed 2nd of February in the Rock Temple in Kerkrade and the 3rdof February in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. Sal was so friendly to email his answers to our questions.

Hi guys, well youre all well travelled musicians, but basically A Pale Horse Named Death is a brand new band. Could you share with our readers how A Pale Horse Named Death came to live?

I created the concept in January 2009 when I was frustrated on my current musical career status and wanted to always make a complete album on my terms.

I think that the bandname reflects the type of music quite well, did the band name was chosen before or after the musical course was set? And why this name, because it really stands out?

I came up with the name first, I was watching a TV program about the bible and revelations. They were speaking about the 4 horseman and that death rode a pale horse, I did a play on words and the name hit me, from that moment on I knew that was it.

A band that looms over the tracks was for me Alice In Chains. What are the main influences on A Pale Horse Named Death?

Basically everything I learned from my whole life, especially learning from Peter Steele on how he wrote songs. I just love dark sounds and lyrical content.

Most of you have been in some well known and big bands, how does it feel to basically start all over again with a complete new band?

It is very exciting and also a lot of work starting over but we are all professionals and know what it takes to make it work.

Sal, APHND is really your baby. Does it feel different than playing in bands like Life Of Agony or Type O Negative? And if it does in which manner?

Yes it does feel very different than previous bands, I get to write my music entirely myself and see it through the way I in vision it.

What were the reactions to your debut album and did it measure up to your expectations?

The reactions have been excellent and I am so proud to see it achieve a positive response.

Youre now travelling through Europe to promote the album. How is the reaction of the public? Do you guys also play songs from your other/former bands or is it strictly APHND stuff that will be played?

We play strictly APHND's music live, we have had amazing fans come out and sing the songs with us.

You have lost an excellent, energetic guitar player in Bobby Hambell. What does this mean for the band and who is the replacement?

Well Bobby has his commitments with Biohazard and we wish him the best, overall it does not affect the band since he did not write music on the album. He was a guest guitarist that did 3 guitar solos, we replaced him with Eddie Heedles and it sounds amazing now.

I know the debut album has just been released, but are there already plans for a follow-up and so yes in which direction does the new music goes?

Yes I am always working on new music and no we will not stray from our sound, it will be more of a continuation of sound and content from the first album.
