The swedish thrashers of Darkane recorded their show in their hometown in 2006 and finally released their first ever live DVD this year. Along with the show, a lot of extra's wil be present on this DVD, which is called Layers Of Live. This makes it a true Bible for every Darkane fan, but that's just what the biography tells us

 

First of all I find it rather strange to records a show and wait four years before releasing it, but my guess is that they probably have a damn good reason to do so. The show that is recorded in the Tivoli in Helsingborg, which is also the hometown of Darkane, is a unofficial warm-up show for their tour through Japan. The footage is shot from several angles, from a cameraman in the audience included. The band that even selected some songs they never have played live before where up for a great night.

 

The enthusiasm of the band immediately reflected itself to the audience and at the start of the show there's a lot of headbanging going on in the small cozy club. A lot of Darkane's great songs are fired in to the audience like: 'Emanation Of Fear', 'Innocence Gone' and of course 'Layer Of Lies'. This results in a great show with a lot of partying by the fans. So far so good I would say.

 

But the only problem with this DVD is the quality and professionalism. It begins with the recordings that have been laying on a shelf for 4 years. It almost gives me the idea that there weren't any plans to release the DVD in the first place. As for the quality we live in an age where HD is constantly thrown at us. Hell, I even believe the DVD box of Sesame street is in HD nowadays. But the entire show is shot with regular camera's. Of course I do know that 4 years ago these camera's cost a fortune to rent but nowadays they're not. Also the menu's are rather pale and the combination of background colors and text colors are not quite great. As for the extras that are mentioned before, it only features their videoclips and some extra live material. I guess this DVD is only important for the ones that were at the show or the real diehard Darkane fans.
