You can love them or hate them, one thing is for sure about the travelling circus from Iowa called Slipknot; they know how to deliver a quality product. The Disasterpieces DVD already proved that on the area of video footage this was no exception, and now they give us their next disturbing DVD in the shape of Voliminal: Inside The Nine. It’s hard for me to actually tell you about everything that’s on this DVD, because I don’t want to spoil any surprises for anyone, but I’ll do my best.

What you get is a nicely shaped 2-DVD that is really something for the die-hard fans. If you have one Slipknot album that your parents got you for Christmas once, please don’t watch this because it will only make you scratch your head and get pissed off. Because these nine sick fuckers have once again created something as unconventional as can be. The first disc has been entirely filmed by hand-held camera’s, and it features footage of rehearsals, shows, backstage bullshit, drinking, a man in a sharks mask, chicks ‘n groupies, a fight and a whole lot of disturbing images that really don’t add any information for the viewer. But since a lot of that disturbing stuff is rewinded, scrambled, coloured and god knows what else they did to it, it’s a part psychedelic part mentally ill adventure that can only be suitable for people who understand what Slipknot is about. And even then you have a hard time watching it.

I can go on and on about the stuff that’s on this disc, but if you’re a fan this is a must have anyway and I wont give away any more details. If you don’t like Slipknot, this is probably a waste of money and time for you.

The second DVD features the videoclips for some tracks of the last album, which means ‘Duality’, ‘Vermillion’, ‘Before I Forget’, ‘The Nameless’ (which is from the live album) and the controversial video for Vermillion pt. 2’. Furthermore there are nine live video’s from festivals around the world which is fun to see, but it only makes me hunger for a concert by this goon squad.

And last but certainly not least, there are unmasked interviews with all nine members, which is quite interesting. Here you see the devotion from all nine members to a band that hasn’t had a single line-up change since their debut, the struggle on the road and with each other, their love for the fans and the music, basically everything that needs to be talked about. Also personalities are a bit more exposed, while one person is relaxed and casual (and playing golf), the other has a more serious look upon life. Nevertheless, it’s very rewarding if you were there from the release of that ‘Spit It Out’ single to this release to see them sitting there like normal people, finally.

I can probably write another ten pages about this thing, but the truth is you just gotta go see it. I suspect a lot of people will be disappointed by it, and other will be in ecstasy. This is where the maggots are separated from the posers.
