The unholy blood-horde as we like to call them The Devil’s Blood are still on the road, to support their last release called The Thousandfold Epicenter. This time around the brought along the all-star sludge-outfit Herder. It promised to be a long, dark ritual on a warm winter night!

The openers of this night were all-star sludge-mongers Herder. This fairly new, but rapidly becoming a well-known band, has currently members of Aborted, Dr. Doom, the Hunger and Urfaust to name a few. The debut album they released last year was an absolute sledgehammer of an album and it peaked highly on my yearlist of 2011. This band plays dirty, heavy sludge in the vein of bands like Iron Monkey, EyehateGod, SourVein and the likes. Bands like this need a sound, which is as thick as maple-syrup, which slowly oozes out of the monitors. Herder uses three guitar-players, so they have that thick sound. Unfortunately the sound this night was a bit chaotic, none the less the songs survived in this chaotic sound. They basically played the whole debut album in total, with absolute highlight of the set, the song ‘Wasted’. Sludge isn’t getting better than this! Check out this great band.

I’ve seen this band a dozen times before and they never let me down. This was the second time I’ve seen them with their new guitar-player and drummer. These new recruits make this band even better if that was even possible! Now they have not 2 guitar-players that crank out one solo after another one, but now they have 3 genius guitar-players, that crank out the most brilliant triple guitar-solos! This night turned out to be a great ritual, a fucking long ritual! The Devil’s Blood played over 2 hours, before they left the stage, leaving the audience flabbergasted behind in the cozy Doornroosje. In those two hours, we got a set list with a lot of new songs from The Thousandfold Epicenter, but also a lot of classics from their debut and their second album. Some of the highlights were the new songs ‘Cruel Lover’ and ‘She’. Of course they also played songs from the album The Time Of No Time Evermore, with the crowd-pleasers ‘Christ Or Cocaine’ and ‘I’ll Be Your Ghost’. Luckily they also played ‘Voodoo Dust’, which is still the best song they’ve ever written. Again an amazing set, the atmosphere they create, the craftsmanship they possess, everything about this band is spot on! If music in Hell is as good as this, send me to Hell man…
