The thing is, there are a lot of melodic metal bands out there that have a very fine basis to work on. The production is most of the time great, the technical abilities of the band members is impressive and the live capabilities are most of the times nothing to be ashamed of. This is also the case for Celesty, which consequently leads to the question if the band is able to distinguish itself.

 

With Mortal Mind Creation, the band does make a step forward, mostly because the sound of the album is better to listen to and the hasted feeling I got in previous work has made place for well considered song patterns. Opener ‘Lord of Mortals’ actually says it all; a combination of heavy music with somehow relaxing keyboards forms the necessary ingredients to be mentioned as a ‘fantasy metal band’. Of course there are extremities. For instance, a ballad is inevitable which resulted in the fine ‘Among the Dreams’ whereas ‘Arrival’ is the heavy extremity of the band with its very fast main riff.

 

Still, I feel that Celesty has not reached its full potential yet. For instance, the sound on ‘Back in Time’ is too empty when the keyboards perform a solo. Also, the singer seems to be talking pretty loud more than he’s singing (which he does pretty well by the way). As a result, Celesty unfortunately becomes ‘one of those bands’ with good capabilities but without the cherry on top of the pie. For the positive this album has very little bad things but negative people will state the fact that there are hardly really positive things as well. And for those objective people, you can place this album in your huge collection of decent records which you probably can’t recall.
