Misanthropia from Tilburg, Netherlands have released their Slang Des Doods a year and a half ago. Due to some personal issues it never came to a review of this album. Well since I do owe it to these guys to give them the proper attention I apologize for my behavior and as the saying goes better late than never.

After a bit strange intro where the riff puts me in a completely different direction the song 'Satan's Colonists' immediately gives a nice idea of what the band stands for, a mixture of black metal with some nice influences of death and progressive metal. Probably one of the major highlights of the album is the mixture of the album. In my opinion the ideal balance for a certain band since none of the instruments are drowning in the sound. On the other hand Mike Wead, who mixed and mastered the album, has worked with quite some names in the past (King Diamond, Mercyfull Fate). So he has to live up to the expectation.

That Misanthropia isn´t afraid to go beyond the standard procedures shows with the acoustic instrumental song ´Tremolo Funeral´. To me it is the best way to end the album since the contrast with it´s predecessor is huge. A small setback on the album is that I hoped for some Dutch lyrics on the album since the title of the album is in dutch. Sadly enough the title track ´Slang Des Doods´ is in English and the track ´Angst´ is more of an intro to ´The Strangled One´. But also with the absence of some Dutch vocals this is still a descent album that made me curious about their next effort.
